Bhubaneswar: Odisha FC strengthened its team for the seventh edition of Hero Indian Super League (ISL) by recruiting defender Kamalpreet Singh on a two-year contract.
Kamalpreet played an important role in Minerva Punjab’s I-League triumph in the 2017-18 season, before switching to Kolkata side East Bengal. The Punjab-born full-back, who played for India in age-group competitions, spent two seasons at East Bengal before accepting Odisha FC’s offer.
”Kamalpreet will be a solid addition to the team,” said OFC president Rohan Sharma. “After last season, it was clear that we needed depth in defence. Kamalpreet is a no-nonsense defensive right- back. He will compete with Shubham for that spot which is good for the club.”
The 22-year-old defender said he was ready to battle for a berth in the starting XI.
“Really excited to be part of the project at Odisha FC and hopefully will win some silverware with them too. I have seen and heard that the club gives a lot of chances to youngsters, and I am ready to fight for my place in the starting line-up for every game,” Kamalpreet said.
