Bhubaneswar: Widespread unseasonal rains in the aftermath of cyclonic storm Michaung has brought down the temperature across Odisha.
While overcast sky and inclement weather prevailed across the state on Thursday under the influence of a low pressure area, remnants of cyclone Michaung, over Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas, the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre has predicted further drop in the night temperature by 3-5 degrees during the next 2-3 days.
Notably, there was an appreciable fall in the minimum temperature at a few places in North Odisha and at one or two places in South Coastal Odisha in the last 24 hours. The lowest night temperature of 12.5 degrees Celsius was recorded at Koraput, followed by 14.5 degrees Celsius at Kerei in Sundargarh district, 15 degrees Celsius each at Daringbadi and Sundargarh and 16 degree Celsius each at Phulbani, Angul, Boudh, Nuapada and G Udayagiri.
The mercury dropped to 18.2 degrees Celsius in Bhubaneswar and 19 degree Celsius in Cuttack. Some other place along the coast, including Gopalpur, Chhatrapur, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Chandbali, also recorded temperature below 20 degree Celsius last night.
Light to moderate rain/ thundershower is also likely at many places in Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak and at a few places in remaining parts of the state till Friday morning. Light rain may continue at one or two places in the state in the subsequent 24 hours, according to the midday bulletin.
The highest of 64 mm rainfall was recorded at Kotpada in Koraput district in the last 24 hours. Between 8.30 am and 5.30 am on Wednesday, Ganjam recorded 40 mm rainfall while Sundargarh, Khurda and Cuttack received 20 mm rainfall each, the weather agency said.
