Bhubaneswar: Odisha Fire Services has been awarded as the ‘Best Fire Service’ in the country for its contribution to rescue and relief operations during cyclone and flood in different places.
The award was announced at the ‘Fire India-2021’ organised by the Institution of Fire Engineers at India Expo Centre in Noida, New Delhi from December 2 to 4, 2021. The Certificate of Merit was presented to the Odisha Fire Services on the occasion. Tamil Nadu Fire Service was adjudged second and Gujarat third at the national level.
According to a release of Directorate of Fire Services, Cuttack, Odisha Fire Service has earned accolades for its contribution during natural calamities across the country. The Fire personnel of the state played a major role in rescue and relief operations during ‘Hud Hud’ in Andhra Pradesh in 2014, rescue of miners in Meghalaya in 2018, Kerala floods in 2018 and Amphan cyclone in 2020 in West Bengal.
Besides, its contributions during cyclones Titli, Bul Bul and Fani in Odisha have been highly appreciated.
Odisha is the only state in the country having fire extinguishing vehicles as per the population and highest number of 342 Fire Services Centres, the release stated.
