At 8 pm on Wednesday, the dam was receiving 5.80 lakh cusecs water from upstream and discharging 6.77 lakh cusecs through 40 sluice gates downstream.

Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) P K Jena said 40 gates of Hirakud dam will remain open till Thursday evening.

The water level at Mundali in Cuttack has also started receding. The peak of the flood is beginning to decline in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack and Puri. However, we need to remain alert on Wednesday night, Jena said.
