Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Friday apprehended Forester of Bandhbahal Section under Brajrajnagar Range in Jharsuguda, Gouranga Sahu, while allegedly accepting Rs 5,000 bribe.
According to Vigilance, he had allegedly demanded illegal gratification from a
person to grant permission, allowing him to cut and transport dry Eucalyptus trees from his land. This prompted him to report the matter to Vigilance authorities, which accordingly laid a trap and nabbed him while he was attempting to flee after accepting the bribe money inside the office campus.
The entire bribe money was recovered and seized from Sahu.
The release further stated that simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations linked to the forester ascertain whether he has accumulated assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. A case has been registered under Section 7 of PC (Amendment) Act, 2018, and further investigation is underway.
