Rourkela: A 4-year- old girl drowned while crossing the Brahmani river near Timjor under Latikata in Sundargarh district on Monday evening.
According to the sources, the incident took place when an old woman along with her granddaughter and grandson were returning from Samarjhol village under Brahmanitarang police limits. They fell into the river after a log in the wooden bridge that they were crossing cracked open.
Locals rushed to their rescue and saved the old woman and her grandson from drowning. Her four-year-old granddaughter, however, was swept away in the river current.
On being informed, the fire brigade personnel reached the spot and began rescue operation.
