Bhubaneswar: A memorial in honour of eminent freedom fighter and litterateur of Odisha Pandit Gopabandhu Das will come up at his native place.
This was revealed by 5T secretary VK Pandian during a visit to Suando, the birthplace of Gopabandhu, on Saturday. Arriving at Suando under Satyabadi block in Puri district in the morning, Pandian took stock of the progress of different welfare projects. He held discussion with the officials about preservation of the ancestral house of the freedom fighter and construction of roads to the village.
Pandian said a museum preserving the materials used by Gopabandhu will be constructed at the place. A 15-ft bronze statue of Gopabandhu will also installed there, he added.
Besides, a children’s park having boating facility in the nearby river will come up in the memorial. The secretary directed the officials to complete the projects as soon as possible.
He also met the relatives of Gopabandhu and local villagers to enquire about the problems and necessary facilities needed by them.
Puri collector Samarth Verma, additional collector Pradip Kumar Sahu, deputy collector Bhabataran Sahu and Satyabadi tehsildar Jayant Kumar Jaysingh accompanied Pandian.
