Bhubaneswar: While there has been no drastic change in the weather condition in Odisha for the past one week, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday predicted that most parts of the state will witness a sharp fall in the night temperature in the next 72 hours.
According to an IMD release, there was a rise in the night temperature in Odisha due to the cloudy weather under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over north Bihar and neighbourhood. Since the cyclonic circulation has become less marked in the last 24 hours, there will be a flow of wind from the northern Himalayan range.
“Under the influence of the cyclonic circulation, the northerly wind was obstructed. As a result of which the night temperature in Odisha had remained about 2°C above the average temperature for about a week. But as the cyclonic circulation has been less marked, there will be a change in the pattern. Going by the modular study a cold wave will set in Odisha from December 20 with a sharp fall in the night temperature by 2-4°C,” duty officer of the Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, Charan Behera, said.
