Kendrapara: Kendrapara BJD MP Anubhav Mohanty took to Twitter on Thursday to express joy and pride over the recent nomination of a 13-year-old girl from the district for the International Children’s Peace Prize 2019.
Subhasmita Tripathy, a Class VIII student of Upper Primary School in sea erosion- hit Pentha village, is one among 119 child leaders from across the globe nominated for the award.
She was picked for her fight against child labour and efforts to bring back dropouts to school.
The Class VIII student identified 22 children, who had dropped out of school, and convinced them to resume studies. She has since been providing them support to continue their education with the help of villagers, school authorities and social organisations.
“I believe education is vital for eradication of social evils and development of Odisha and India. I salute her efforts and hope children everywhere are inspired by her. Best of luck for the Prize, and hope to meet you soon!” the MP wrote.
The Nature Club of Kendrapara had recently sent a case study of Subhasmita to the New Delhi-based NGO ‘Save the Children’, highlighting here efforts, and it drew praises from all quarters.
The winner of the annual award instituted by Netherland-based International children’s rights organization – Kids Rights Foundation – will be announced September 30, 2019.
The winner receives a study and care grant and a worldwide platform to promote his/her ideals.
Notably, Nobel laureate Malala Yousafzai was conferred with this award in 2013.
