Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has earmarked around 30-acre land at Gothapatna, on the outskirts of the state capital, for setting up the second campus of Rama Devi Women’s University.
“I have personally visited the place, which is appropriate for the establishment of the second campus of the University,” said Higher Education Minister, Ananta Das.
On the other hand, Vice Chancellor of the University Padmaja Mishra has expressed reservations over the decision as the piece of land is situated far from the city. She said that the RD University authorities would urge the state government to reconsider its decision and allocate land somewhere inside the city keeping the security and safety of girl students in mind.
Earlier, the state government had decided to set up the second campus of the University on the premises of the Utkal University here. However, the decision was later withdrawn following protests by the students of Utkal University.
Prior to this, the government had selected a piece of land at Daspur, but dropped the plan after students and employees of Rama Devi University opposed the move alleging that the place will be too remote.
