Sambalpur: The farmers sought the intervention of Odisha Governor Raghubar Das in resolving their problems during an interaction in Sambalpur district on Monday.
The Governor, who is on a visit to the district, interacted with the farmers at a meeting in Parmanpur village. Finding the rare opportunity to meet the Governor, the villagers described their various problems related the production and sale of the crops.
They alleged irregularities in paddy procurement centres (mandis) causing loss to them. The interference of middlemen and agents of rice mills and ‘katni chhatni’ (deduction in weight towards waste) were depriving them of getting the deserving amount for their produce, they claimed.
After hearing the farmers patiently, the Governor assured them of looking into their problems. “I will try to resolve the problems. I will take it up with the Centre and the state government to find suitable solution,” he said.
