Odisha Govt Adds 14 OAS Posts To Civil Services Exam After Widespread Resentment

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to fill 151 additional vacancies under the Odisha Civil Services Examination 2025 following the intervention of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.

The move comes after the notification of the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) for state civil services examination of 2025 by excluding Group A services like Odisha Administrative Service (OAS), Odisha Finance Service (OFS) and Odisha Revenue Service (ORS) raised serious questions over inter-departmental coordination in the government while fuelling resentment among aspirants across the state.

Taking note of the widespread concern, the CM directed for a detailed review of vacant posts across departments and instructed for filling up those through the ongoing recruitment process. “A request has been made to the Odisha Public Service Commission to fill 14 posts in Odisha Administrative Service (OAS), 113 posts in Odisha Revenue Service (ORS), 16 posts in Odisha Transport Service (OTS), and 8 posts in Odisha Welfare Service (OW

S),” a CMO release said.

The addition of these 151 posts is seen as a major relief for thousands of young candidates preparing for the competitive exam, offering them enhanced opportunities to secure merit-based government positions.

The release further stated that the Mohan Majhi government has been giving utmost priority to job creation, and nearly 40,000 government posts have been filled up in the last 18 months.

The Chief Minister has also directed all departments to recommend filling up all existing vacancies through various recruitment commissions, ensuring that no sanctioned post remains vacant by the time future examination notifications are published, it added.

On December 31, 2025, the OPSC notified 314 vacancies in seven services, with 104 posts reserved for women. It included vacancies in Odisha Police Service, Odisha Taxation & Accounts Service, Odisha Cooperative Service, Odisha Labour Service, Odisha Excise Service, Odisha Tourism Service, and Odisha Skill Development & Employment Service. Notably absent were posts in OAS, OFS, and ORS.

Sources indicate that interdepartmental disputes, particularly over cadre rules involving the General Administration, Finance, and Revenue departments, may have delayed or blocked the inclusion of OAS, OFS, and ORS posts.
