Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Saturday signed an agreement with the Swimming Federation of India (SFI) to develop, promote and expand the swimming ecosystem in the state and country.
Through this partnership, Odisha will provide support and sponsor SFI, while the federation will provide technical expertise in conjunction with Odisha State Swimming Association (OSSA).
Vineel Krishna, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of Odisha’s Sports and Youth Services Department, and SFI secretary general Monal Chokshi signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of Virendra Nanavati, FINA Bureau member and senior SFI Vice-President on the sidelines of the ongoing Men’s Junior World Cup hockey meet at Kalinga Stadium.
There’s a provision to extend the one-year agreement to five years, under mutually agreed terms.
The aim of the partnership is holistic development of the sport from grassroot to elite level, conduct national and international swimming competitions and organize ‘Train the Trainers’ courses in Odisha.
“The Biju Patnaik Swimming Pool Complex at Kalinga Stadium is one of the finest swimming infrastructure in the country and we are strengthening our grassroot swimming training centres too. Our High Performance Partnership with JSW Sports and this association with Swimming Federation of India will give an added impetus to the sport,” Vineel Krishna said.
