Cuttack: In order to ease the process of availing driving licence by the applicants, the state government has announced that the doctors can issue necessary medical certitificates.
The State Transport Authority (STA), in a release on Friday, stated that the medical certificate of a person applying for issuance of driving licence or its renewal can be presented online rather than doing it manually.
“It has been decided to accept medical certificate in form 1 (A) electronically under the 5T policy of the government to improve the ease of getting driving license and reduce footfall in RTO offices,” the STA said.
The government has made necessary facility in Sarathi portal where doctors can issue medical certificate directly to eliminate the process of submission of medical certificate and verification physically at RTO office.
For the purpose, the doctors will be provided with ID and password to issue medical certificate through the portal. They will have to upload the applicant’s certificate on the Sarathi portal.
Besides ensuring convenience to the people, the provision will prevent fake medical certificate from being produced to get a driving licence. In order to make whole system transparent, the portal is launched where the applicant can directly get medical certificate without hassle.
Initially, the provision has been made optional so that the applicant can submit medical certificate online as well as offline. It is mandatory for any person above 40 years of age to produce a medical certificate under the form 1 (A) to get a driving licence or renewal of existing licence as per Motor Vehicle Act.
