Odisha Govt Allows Universities To Engage Retired Teachers To Take Classes

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has allowed its universities facing shortage of teaching staff to engaged the services of retired teachers in academic activities.

In a letter to the vice-chancellors of the universities run by the state government, Aravind Agarwal, secretary, Higher Education department has stated that the government was unable to make appointment to vacant teacher posts in the universities through the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) due to legal problems.

Since the universities were facing shortage of teaching faculty, they can engage the retired teachers at present. “It is observed that continuance of legal impediment in filling up vacant posts through the OPSC has caused shortage of quality teaching faculties in the state public universities and thus affecting the academic performances,” said Agarwal.
