Bhubaneswar: To encourage budding sportspersons in Odisha and create opportunities for them to excel, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Tuesday announced several incentives based on the feedback of students of sports hostels.
The incentives will be given as part of the state government’s 5T initiative and will include:
—The monthly allowance for girl and boy students in all sports hostels will be enhanced to Rs 500 and Rs 300, respectively
—For out-of-station participation in recognised sports competitions organised by the National Sports Federation (NSF) or similar level, all sportspersons will be given a daily allowance of Rs 300.
—Sportspersons winning gold medals at national level competitions will a get a monthly allowance of Rs 1,000 for one year. For silver and bronze medals, the amount will be Rs 500 and Rs 300, respectively. The Sports Hostel students will get this amount in addition to their monthly allowances.
—If the medal winners create a national record and the record is not broken for one year, the record holder will then get an additional monthly allowance of Rs 5,000 for one year.
—Sportspersons selected for national teams will a get monthly allowance of Rs 1,000 for one year.
—A separate scheme will be formulated for the coaches with monetary incentives for performance enhancement.
