Bhubaneswar: The state government on Tuesday appointed Mandakinee Kar as the Chairperson of the Odisha State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (OSCPCR), official sources said.
Her posting came two days after the Odisha government appointed over two dozen Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leaders as chairpersons, advisors and vice-chairman of different boards and state-owned corporations on Sunday.
A former member of the OSCPCR, Kar happens to be a state secretary of the ruling BJD and a former vice-president of Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BYJD).
The OSCPCR, set up by the state government in pursuance of Section 17 of the Commission for Protection of Child Rights Act, 2005, works in close coordination with the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), state-line departments and other state Commissions.
The Commission seeks to create awareness about child rights in the state at all levels and to voice the interests and concerns of the children in policies and programmes that affect their lives.
