Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Thursday approved nine investment projects worth Rs 1.53 lakh crore in green energy and equipment, metals and minerals, paper and IT infrastructure sectors. Among them is the proposal of ArcelorMittal/Nippon Steel to set up a 7 MTPA Steel Plant in Jagatsinghpur with an investment of Rs 38000-crore.
According to an official release, the projects approved by the High-Level Clearance Authority chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik would come up in Balasore, Dhenkanal, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Kalahandi, Khurda, Koraput, and Mayurbhanj and is likely to generate over 27,030 employment opportunities for the people of the state.
While four projects are in the green energy and equipment sector, two in the paper industries and as many in the metals and minerals sector, one is related to IT Infrastructure.
“These projects would be set up by organisations, that had participated at Make-in-Odisha Conclave 2022 and showed investment intent in the state,” the release said.
ArcelorMitta proposal has come nine years after it pulled out from its mega steel plant in Odisha.
