Bhubaneswar: The state government has cancelled leaves of all officials and employees of line departments in view of the extremely severe cyclonic storm Fani approaching the Odisha coast.
At an emergency meeting, energy secretary Hemant Sharma directed the senior officials to remain on duty and constantly monitor the situation. He also directed executive engineers in the coastal districts to remain alert round the clock, as there is a possibility of big trees and electric poles getting uprooted. They have been asked to restore power supply in the affected areas at the earliest possible.
Besides, the Water Resources department has also directed engineers to remain on high alert, as there is a possibility of breaches in river embankments following extremely heavy rainfall.
The Health and Family Welfare department has, in a notification, directed the authorities concerned to keep medical teams on standby in the vulnerable areas to provide immediate medical treatment.
Besides, the Revenue and Disaster Management department has directed officials to keep all equipment ready in coastal districts to take up rescue and relief operations on a war-footing.
