Bhubaneswar: In a major administrative revamp, the Odisha government announced the creation of Rairangpur Police District by carving it out from the existing Mayurbhanj Police District.
The establishment of the new police district is aimed at strengthening law enforcement, improving public service delivery, and ensuring faster response to crime in the region.
The newly formed police district will comprise two police subdivisions — Rairangpur and Karanjia — and include 14 police stations such as Rairangpur Town, Bisoi, Bahalda, Jamda, Karanjia, and Jashipur. All territorial jurisdictions remain unchanged, but administrative control has been realigned for better efficiency, official sources said.
To address modern challenges, a dedicated Cyber Crime & Economic Offences (CC & EO) Police Station will be set up in Rairangpur. It will be staffed with 12 regular posts, including DSPs, Inspectors, and Constables, along with 4 outsourced domain experts specialising in IT, cyber forensics, and finance.
This apart, the district will host an Investigating Unit for Crime Against Women (IUCAW) with 15 regular posts, including ASPs, DSPs, and Inspectors. This unit is expected to bolster gender-sensitive policing and ensure justice for women in vulnerable communities.
The government has also sanctioned the creation of 40 new posts and the redistribution of 20 existing ones. Seven Group D roles will be outsourced to prevent future litigation related to service regularisation.
