Bhubaneswar: Odisha government on Wednesday confirmed death of two persons due to sunstroke in the last 24 hours, taking the toll to 36 in the state this summer.
According to a press release from the office of the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), a total of 149 alleged sunstroke death cases had been reported by the collectors as on June 4. Of these cases, the cause of death of 34 victims had been confirmed to be sunstroke casualties.
During the last 24 hours, two more alleged sunstroke death cases have been reported.
With this, cumulatively 151 alleged sunstroke death cases have been reported so far this summer.
After detailed investigation, 36 deaths were found to be due to heatwave and 31 cases not due to sunstroke. Altogether 84 cases are now under investigation at the district level, it added.
