Odisha Govt Decides To Shift Proposed Cancer Hospital From Barang To Jatni

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government, which had put the proposed world class cancer hospital at Barang on fast track, has decided to shift it to Jatni near the capital city.

According to Health department sources, the government took the decision after the Tata Foundation Trust sought to change the location on technical grounds. The government has identified 25 acre of land near Infocity’s second campus in Jatni.

The government had signed an MoU with the Trust to establish a state of the art cancer hospital and research centre in Bhubaneswar. The expert committee formed to identify land had finalised the land near Barang for the project. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had laid its foundation stone on February 17, 2019.

The committee had outlined the clinical facilities to be available in the 50-bed hospital. It also proposed to construct a bunker of 100 ft x 100 ft area for radiotherapy unit. However, the trust sought to change the hospital location due to technical issues.
