Odisha Govt Directs Departments To Use ORSAC Data For Monitoring Projects

Bhubaneswar: The state government has directed its departments to use the data generated by Odisha Space Application Centre (ORSAC) for monitoring various project and ensuring accuracy in delivery of services.

Chairing the 43rd Governing Body meeting of ORSAC in State Secretariat on Thursday, Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra directed ORSAC to emphasise on citizen-centric applications. Identifying formation of islands, shoreline dynamics, capacity of sand quarry, expansion of peri-urban areas and town development mapping should be its focus areas, he advised.

Giving the updates of the activities of ORSAC, its Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Prafulla Kumar Mallick said during COVID pandemic, it had developed web-based GIS to help migrant workers locate their TMCs and mapping of COVID cases at panchayat level.

He further said ORSAC has developed the applications for land and forest location, integrated wildlife management system, Odisha Irrigation Information System, Plot Level Validation of Paddy Crop Using Remote Sensing and GIS and vehicle tracking system for mineral carrying vehicles.

It was revealed at the meeting that the ORSAC will sign an MoU with IIT, Kanpur to establish a regional GEODATIC Centre in the field of GNSS-based Geodesy, Plate Tectonic Movement monitoring and Geoinformatics. The centre will be of first of its kind in eastern India.

The ORSAC will also sign another MoU with ISRO’s Regional Remote Sensing Centre-East, Kolkata for collaborative works on Hyperspectral Remote Sensing.

Additional Chief Secretary, Water Resources Anu Garg; Principal Secretary, Rural Development and I&PR Sanjay Kumar Singh; Secretary, Science & Technology Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma; scientist KM Reddy from ISRO, Kolkata and senior scientist Pramod Kumar Parida were present.
