Bhubaneswar: Beneficiaries of the ambitious Subhadra Yojana in Odisha received the fifth instalment of financial assistance in their bank accounts on the occasion of Rakhi Purnima on Friday
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi led the disbursement at a special event held at Lathipada in Nayagad district. An amount of Rs 5,160 crore was transferred through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to the accounts of more than 1.03 crore women beneficiaries across the state. Each beneficiary received Rs 5,000 in bank account.
Officials said this instalment also includes 2,21,054 lakh new beneficiaries, who have been added to the scheme.
Officials and representatives of the banks concerned had earlier been directed to complete the DBT process within the stipulated time. They were also asked to strengthen banking arrangements and take all necessary measures to ensure that beneficiaries do not face any inconvenience during the disbursement.
Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida, Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy, Khandapada MLA Dusmanta Kumar Swain, Puri MP Sambit Patra and Kandhamal MP Sukanta Kumar Panigrahi were among those present at the programme.
Eligible beneficiaries who had been left out of earlier disbursements have received all five instalments together. The move has enabled women who were subsequently found eligible to receive the financial assistance they were entitled to under the scheme.
Women who had not received any Subhadra instalment until now, along with newly eligible beneficiaries, received Rs 25,000 covering all five instalments in a single transfer.
Launched on September 17, 2024, the Subhadra Yojana provides eligible women with Rs 10,000 annually in two instalments of Rs 5,000 each — one around Raksha Bandhan and the other around International Women’s Day.
Under the scheme, each eligible woman is entitled to receive a total of Rs 50,000 over five years. The government aims to promote women’s empowerment, self-reliance and financial inclusion through the programme.
