Puri: Odisha Government is distributing free sanitary napkins to all households in Puri, to help women and girls in the cyclone-affected areas there. The government will continue to do so for the next two months.
Over 24 lakh sanitary napkins have been provisioned for free supply in the district. Sources said that sanitary napkins have been supplied to ASHA workers for free distribution at the doorstep of each household in Puri district for a period of two months. This would ensure health, hygiene and dignity of women and girls in this critical period, said an official release.
National Health Mission director Shalini Pandit directed to ensure that each and every woman of the district gets the free sanitary napkins. During this period, the state government moved 1,945 pregnant women to safe places and hospitals. Out of them, 600 have already delivered babies in the hospitals.
Notably, more than one crore sixty-five lakh people of Odisha have been adversely affected by the cyclone that hit the Puri coast on May 3.
