Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has prepared a detailed project report (DPR) for a comprehensive redevelopment of the BDA City Centre, earlier famous as Nicco Park, in Bhubaneswar.
Making this announcement during the Local Self-Governance Day celebrations on Sunday, Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra said the centre would be developed into an ultramodern recreational facility in the capital city.
As per the plan, the redevelopment work would be implemented in three phases with an estimated investment of Rs 250 crore to Rs 300 crore. Steps would be taken for modern lighting arrangement, beautification of the lake area, dedicated cycling tracks, an Ayurvedic park, food courts, and foot overbridges to improve public access.
Stating that Nicco Park was a popular recreational centre in Bhubaneswar in the past, the Minister said the place lost its importance in recent years. The state government has decided to develop it with state-of-the-art facilities.
Officials said initial works will focus on infrastructure development and beautification, followed by provision of wellness-oriented amenities and recreational spaces. The project is likely to present Nicco Park as a central leisure hub for the state capital.
