Bhubaneswar: In a bid to streamline revenue collection from urban areas, the state government on Friday launched digitised tax system MPL-2.0 for holding tax in 114 urban local bodies (ULBs).
Inaugurating the tax system, chief secretary Suresh Mohapatra appealed to the tax payers, collection authorities and officials concerned to adopt the initiative to make it a national model.
Speaking on the occasion, principal secretary, Housing and Urban Development department, G Mathivathanan said the system was implemented in 9 urban areas including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Sambalpur, Rourkela, Puri, Balasore, Baripada and Bhadrak last year. It had led to 37% increase in revenue collection in 2019-20 over 2018-19.
Sangarmajit Nayak, Director, Municipal Administration said more than 900 tax collection officials will be involved in the system. While holding tax of Rs 73.2 crore was collected from the 9 urban areas in 2028-19 financial year, the collection was Rs 100.65 crore registering an increase of 37.5% in the subsequent year after introduction of the MPL-2.0, he added.
