Bhubaneswar: In a major step to ensure smooth conduct of the upcoming Rath Yatra in Puri, the Odisha government on Friday formed a high-level Ministerial committee to oversee the arrangements for the world-famous festival.
The committee will be headed by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida as chairperson, according to a notification issued by the Law Department.
Law, Works and Excise Minister Pruthviraj Harichandan, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling, Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra and Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena are the members of the committee.
The Principal Secretary of the Law Department will be the convenor of the high-level panel.
The committee’s primary responsibility is to monitor, oversee, and provide guidance at the government level to ensure that all arrangements for the festival are executed seamlessly.
The annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannath and siblings is set to be held on June 27, following the Snana Yatra on June 11.
Considered one of the most significant religious events in the country, the car festival attracts lakhs of devotees from across the country and abroad.
