Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has no proposal for the formation of any new Notified Area Councils (NACs) at present, the state Assembly was informed on Tuesday.
Sharing this information in the House, Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mohapatra said the previous government had announced the formation of new NACs in a haste ahead of the elections.
However, the new government is yet to receive any formal proposal from the district Collectors regarding new NAC formation, he said.
The previous government had announced formation of 57 new NACs in the state ahead of the elections, he said.
Stating that letters were simply written to the Collectors of different districts over the matter, the Minister said no proposal has been received from them so far.
Any decision regarding formation of new NACs will be taken only after necessary deliberation, he said, adding that the government will again send communications to the Collectors and take steps after receiving proposals as per the procedure.
