Bhubaneswar: In view of the steep rise in fuel prices, the Odisha government on Wednesday hiked the fares for all categories of buses under the automatic fare adjustment mechanism.
According to a notification issued by the Commerce and Transport Department, the fares of ordinary and express buses have been increased by one paise per km, while that of deluxe and AC deluxe buses will be dearer by 2 paise per km.
The fare for the ordinary bus will now be 74p/km as against 73p/km and the fare for express bus will be 77p/km instead of 76p/km.
Besides, deluxe category buses will now charge Rs 1.09/km as against Rs 1.07/km while passengers travelling in AC deluxe buses will have to pay Rs 1.31/km as against the earlier Rs 1.29/km, the notification added.
However, there will be no raise in the fare of town buses in the state.
This is the second time after a gap of about one and a half months that the government has effected a hike in the bus fare. The government had increased the bus fare on December 7 last year.
