Bhubaneswar: With entire Odisha in the grip of heatwave condition and IMD forecasting hotter days ahead, the state government has announced water break for school students.
The School and Mass Education department, in a letter to schools on Thursday, has directed to introduce water break to enable the students and staff to get respite from the heat.
As per the direction, the schools will ring water bell for at least three times during the study hour. While the first bell will be rung at 8.30 am, the second at 10 am and the third at 11 am.
After the bell is sounded, the students will be asked to drink water in their respective classes. The department has asked the schools to ensure that the students are kept sufficiently hydrated during the study hours.
Earlier, the department had announced morning classes for the schools from April 2. It had directed primary, secondary and higher secondary schools including private institutions to hold morning classes.
As per the direction, the students of Class I to XII will attend the classes in their schools from 7 am to 11.30 am from the scheduled date.
Meanwhile, mercury touched 42 degree Celsius in two places and crossed 41 degree in 6 places of the state on Thursday.
