Bhubaneswar: Concerned over the rising cases of COVID-19 among healthcare workers in private hospitals, the state government has directed such facilities to train their staffers on infection prevention and control (IPC) measures within seven days.
According to a directive by the Directorate of Medical Education and Training, the private hospitals will have to submit a compliance certificate on IPC training for their employees to the government.
The directive came after more than 40 staffers, including doctors, of four private hospitals in Bhubaneswar tested positive for COVID-19 recently.
Besides, the private hospitals must submit the name of a nodal officer with his/her phone number and email address to the Director of Public Health.
The hospitals also have to establish a dedicated fever clinic and reserve an isolated area for management of suspected/confirmed cases of COVID-19.
Moreover, no coronavirus patient shall be transferred to dedicated COVID-19 hospitals unless being stabilised and transportable. Public conveyance won’t be allowed for transportation of such patients and only dedicated ambulances should be used.
The directorate has also instructed the hospitals to notify all cases of influenza like illness (ILI) and severe acute respiratory infections (SARI) to the district authorities or local urban bodies or the State public health authority.
