Odisha Govt Issues Show-Cause Notice To 79 BEOs Over Negligence In Teacher Transfer

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has issued notices to as many as 79 Block Education Officers (BEOs) across the state for allegedly failing to forward online transfer applications of elementary teachers to the District Education Officers (DEOs) within the deadline.

The Directorate of Elementary Education has issued the show-cause notices over delay in the process of transfer of teachers.

Official sources said that the Directorate had fixed May 10, 2026, as the last date for forwarding online transfer applications submitted by elementary teachers. However, several BEOs allegedly failed to process and forward the applications within the prescribed timeline.

Taking serious note of this, the Directorate termed the inaction as administrative negligence and directed the defaulting

officers to submit written explanations within three days of receiving the notice.

The notice warned that disciplinary proceedings and other suitable actions may be initiated against the officers concerned if satisfactory replies are not submitted within the stipulated period.

Officials from several districts, including Ganjam, Gajapati, Koraput, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balangir, Nayagarh, Khurda and Rayagada are among those who received the notices.

The Directorate found that in several blocks, despite receiving a large number of transfer applications, not a single application had been forwarded to the DEOs. In some areas, applications remained pending even after the deadline expired.

Sources said that in some districts, including Ganjam, Gajapati and Kendrapada, several applications were reportedly left unattended.

In Kashipur block of Rayagada district, only seven out of 97 transfer applications were reportedly forwarded, while several other blocks recorded zero forwarding.

The Directorate stated that the transfer process is time-sensitive and any delay in forwarding applications affects the overall transfer mechanism and administrative functioning of schools.
