Bhubaneswar: In order to boost up milk production and strengthen dairy cooperatives, the Odisha government has formulated a new scheme “Mukhyamantri Kamadhenu Yojana”, said Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Friday.

Speaking at “Monsoon Meet” of Central government’s Animal Husbandry and Milk Production department in Bhubaneswar, Majhi said his government in cooperation with the Central government has taken several steps for promotion of fisheries and animal husbandry and financial growth of small farmers.

Besides Kamadhenu Yojana, the government will implement “Pranisampad Samruddhi Yojana” and “Gomata Yojana” for improvement in health condition of the cattle, he said.

“My government will implement Kamadhenu Yoajan with an outlay of Rs 1423.47 crore in five years. Under this scheme, the government will extend financial assistance for establishing small dairy units, providing subsidised calf feed, increasing coverage under livestock insurance and strengthening dairy cooperatives,” he said.

The chief minister further said the state government has signed an MoU with the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) for strengthening the milk cooperatives and boosting milk production.

“We are also collaborating with the NDDB to set up a vaccine production unit at Berhampur and a state of the art Feed Analytical Laboratory at Bhubaneswar,” he added.

Union Minister of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy Rajiv Ranjan Singh, Odisha fisheries minister and other ministers of the Centre and the state were present.
