Odisha Govt Moots Session On Bhagavad Gita, Verse Chanting In Schools

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is contemplating a session on Shrimad Bhagavad Gita in schools across Odisha for holistic development of the students, School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond told the Odisha Assembly on Friday.

Responding to a query raised by BJP MLA from Bhadrak, Sitansu Sekhar Mohapatra, the Minister said: “There is a proposal for reciting Om thrice, chanting verses from Bhagavad Gita, prayers, moral stories, and peace hymns during morning assembly under the Odisha Curriculum Framework for School Education 2025.”

It is aimed at promoting critical thinking and moral reasoning among the students, he added.

Mohapatra had asked whether the state government was planning to incorporate Bhagavad Gita into elementary and high school curricula for religious, moral, and intellectual growth of the children.

In Uttarakhand, one shloka from the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita is recited during prayer meetings in all government schools with student being informed about the meaning and its scientific relevance with an aim  to blend modern education with traditional Indian knowledge systems and inculcate human values and character-building traits in the students.
