Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the incident in which a man of Krushnapalli village in Boudh district was forced to carry the dead body of his sister-in-law on a bi-cycle for cremation on Wednesday, the BJP on Thursday said that the ruling BJD government has no empathy for victims of ostracism.
“This is not the first incident. Several such incidents have taken place across the state. Is the state government not aware of such incidents? The state government is busy spreading the Ama Gaon, Ama Bikash Yojana through advertisements in the media and planning several welfare schemes but ironically, it has distanced itself from the people who desperately need help,” BJP state unit president Basant Panda told mediapersons here.
He said the state government should wake up from its deep slumber and seriously take up cases of ostracism, which is a cognizable offence.
Reacting to the statement of the BJP president, the BJD said that the saffron party leaders should ask themselves about the death of 80 children in a Gorakhpur hospital, malnutrition deaths in Gujarat and other social upheavals in all BJP-ruled states.
“The BJP government in the Centre has completed more than four years of its tenure. But it has done nothing to improve healthcare and education. Therefore, it should refrain from such a malicious campaign against the state government. The BJD government is working for the welfare of the people of Odisha and will continue its efforts in the coming days,” BJD spokesperson Sasmit Patra told the media.
