Bhubaneswar: In order to further strengthen health services, the Odisha government has planned a major revamp of the infrastructure in hospitals from ground level.

Speaking to media persons in Bhubaneswar on Saturday, Health Director Bijay Mohapatra said as per the government’s plan, the number of beds in the government-run medicals and hospitals will be increased in a phased manner as per the IPHS 2022 rule.

“The government has planned to open 306 new primary health centres (PHCs) across the state. Besides, the number of beds in PHCs and community health centres (CHCs) will be increased. The number of doctors and nursing staff will be increased accordingly,” Mohapatra said.

The number of beds in private and government hospitals in the state will be increased from current 28,000 to around 50,000. At present, construction work for 300 beds each at the district headquarters hospitals (DHHs) is in progress, he added.

Besides improving infrastructure, the government has decided to provide 24-hour services in each PHC where two doctors will monitor six beds, Mohapatra said.
