Bhubaneswar: In another move to attract best teachers for quality enhancement in medical education, the Odisha government has enhanced the base remuneration for Tutors, Senior Residents (SRs) and Junior Residents (JRs) working in different medical college and hospitals (MCHs).

In an official order on Saturday, Shalini Pandit, secretary, Health and Family Welfare said these medical college teachers posted in remote areas would be given place-based incentives.

The notification stated that the enhancement in base remuneration aimed at attracting more highly qualified teachers to the newly coming up MCHs. Place-based remuneration was also considered necessary for incentivising the teachers to serve in the MCHs located in remote and difficult areas.

For the place-based incentives, different areas of the state were clubbed up under 3 zones. While Zone-A consisted of Koraput, Nabarangpur, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Balangir, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Kandhamal districts, Zone-B comprised Keonjhar, Boudh, Balasore, Gajpati, Sonepur, Deoghar, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Angul, Sundargarh and Mayurbhanj and Zone-C included Dhenkanal, Puri, Nayagarh, Kendrapada, Jajpur, Bhadrak and Jagatsinghpur districts. No place-based incentive was allowed for Cuttack, Khurda and Ganjam districts.

“Both the in-service and directly recruited faculties would get the place-based incentive. Enhanced base remuneration would be applicable for all Tutors, SRs and JRs who were either direct candidates (Post PG bound period) or engaged through advertisements when they were posted in any health institution,” the order stated.

The Tutors with PG (Pre & Para Clinical departments) will be entitled to remuneration of Rs 80,000 in place of the present Rs 75,000. Similarly, Senior Resident will get Rs 75,000 in place of Rs 65,000 and Junior Resident will get Rs 60,000 against the present Rs 55,000, the official order stated.
