Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has increased the insurance amount for working journalists under Gopabandhu health insurance scheme.
According to a release of chief minister’s office on Tuesday, chief minister Naveen Patnaik has announced that the insurance amount of the working journalists has been raised from Rs 2 lakh to Rs 5 lakh under the government’s Gopabandhu Sambadika Swasthya Bima Yojana.
The raise in the insurance cover will benefit 8,717 working journalists and their families in the state.
It may be noted that the government had announced financial incentives for the working journalists on July 6. Information and Public Relation Minister Pratap Jena had announced financial assistance of Rs four lakh to the family of journalists in case of death.
Besides, housing loan at 3% interest upto Rs 25 lakh, four-wheeler loan upto Rs 4 lakh and two-wheeler loan upto Rs 50,000 for the journalists were also announced by the minister.
