Odisha Govt Reverts To 1990 Rules For Compassionate Appointment, Check Notification

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Friday notified the cabinet’s decision to revert to Odisha Civil Services (Rehabilitation Assistance) Rules, 1990, for giving jobs on compassionate basis.

This allows for appointment of one member of the family in Group C or Group D category, in case of death of a government employee, on the basis of certificate issued by the district administration. The new rules introduced in 2020 by the then government had replaced the certificate with a marking system-based CCR of the employee, who died between 1990 and 2020.

With this, family members of employees who died before enforcement of Odisha Civil Services (Rehabilitation Assistance) Rules, 2020, will get government jobs under Odisha Civil Services (Rehabilitation Assistance) Rules, 1990.

The proposal had received the Cabinet nod last month during which Chief Minister Mohan Majhi had mentioned about several families being deprived of this assistance and cases being filed in the courts, seeking employment.

Describing the notification as historic, Advocate General Pitambar Acharya said that around 500 pending SLPs in Supreme Court filed by the stat government will come to an end by this amendment. “This is a historic decision of CM Mohan Majhi to provide solace to distressed family members of deceased government employees,” he told a local channel.
