Odisha Govt Sanctions Rs 12.79 Cr For King Kansa’s Raj Mahal At Bargarh Dhanu Jatra

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has sanctioned Rs 12.79 crore for construction of the proposed Raj Mahal for Dhanu Jatra on the playground of Nishamani High School in Bargarh town.

Sharing the official letter from the State Tourism Department on X, Bargarh MLA Ashwini Kumar Sarangi expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida for their support. He added that the initiative would elevate the grandeur of the world’s largest open-air theatre.

During his visit to Bargarh on January 12 when he attended the Dhanu Jatra festivity, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi had announced that a permanent Raj Mahal could be constructed for King Kansa at an estimated cost of Rs 12 crore. He further stated that the government has drawn up several plans for promotion of Dhanu Yatra at international level and development of Bargarh.

Dhanu Yatra is based on Krishna Leela and showcases the mythological story of Krishna and his uncle Kansa. During the Yatra, Bargarh town transforms into Mathura. River Jeera symbolically represents river Yamuna and Ambapali, which is located on the other side of the river Jeera, turns into Gopapur.
