Odisha Govt Steps Up Crackdown On Corrupt Officials, Takes Action Against 50 In 8 Months

Bhubaneswar: Intensifying its drive against corruption, the Odisha government has launched legal proceedings against 50 officials during the last eight months.

In a written statement in the state Assembly, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said that the Vigilance department has taken action against these 50 persons for allegedly indulging in corruption and also amassing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.

During the crackdown, assets worth over Rs 117 crore have been seized. This apart, jewellery and plots of land valued at over Rs 4 crore have been seized from 11 officials.

Of the cases brought forward, convictions have been secured in 13 instances, though nine have led to acquittals, highlighting the ongoing judicial process.

Currently, there are 3,692 vigilance cases are pending, demonstrating the extensive measures being taken to tackle corruption by setting up 22 Vigilance courts.
