Odisha Govt Suspends OAS Officer Over Financial Irregularities

Jharsuguda: Senior Odisha Administrative Service (OAS) officer Madhusmita Singh has been placed under suspension by the state government over alleged financial irregularities during her tenure as Belpahar Municipality Executive Officer.

As per an order issued by the Revenue and Disaster Management Department on Saturday, Singh, currently serving as Tehsildar of Jamada Tehsil in Mayurbhanj district, has been suspended under the powers conferred by Rule-12 of the Odisha Civil Services (Classification, Control & Appeal) Rules, 1962.

She previously held the position of Executive Officer at Belpahar Municipality in Jharsuguda district.

The suspension is effective immediately, with Singh’s headquarters fixed at the Office of the Sub-Collector in Rairangpur during this period. The order explicitly states that she cannot leave the headquarters without prior permission from the Collector of Mayurbhanj. Additionally, she will be entitled to subsistence allowance as per Rule-90 of the Odisha Service Code.

According to official sources, Singh was accused of irregularities in several projects, including the streetlight project, as well as discrepancies in Belpahar Municipality’s cash book. Following complaints, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) had initiated a probe.
