Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo on Wednesday chaired a review meeting of the Energy department and emphasised the need to ensure stable power supply to the consumers across the state.

During the meeting held in Bhubaneswar, a comprehensive review of the activities of four power distribution companies — OPTCL, TPCODL, TPNODL, TPSODL, and TPWODL — was conducted. The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary of the department, Hemant Kumar Sharma, along with senior officials from Tata Power and OPTCL, an official release said.

The agenda included discussion on the work to be executed over the next five years. The Deputy CM began by expressing gratitude to all present for their efforts in restoring power quickly following cyclone Dana.

He underlined the need to complete ongoing 33/11 KV power grid and substation projects across the state by 2025. He also called for upgrades and renovations of older transformers and grids.

Singh Deo also stressed the importance of accelerating power supply infrastructure along the elephant corridor and nearby areas, directing officials to identify essential locations.

The meeting also addressed the objective of providing electricity to 100% of households in Odisha.
Tata Power is progressing with the implementation of the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme in the state, which is expected to benefit around 2.5 lakh consumers. Tata Power officials confirmed that the remaining work will be completed by March 2025.

In areas with high load demand, new grid locations have been identified, and work is underway to either install new grids or enhance capacity by connecting these areas to nearby substations with lower loads.

The government aims to establish a robust infrastructure to ensure stable and uninterrupted power for the State’s residents, which will foster the state’s development and growth, Singh Deo stated.
