Bhubaneswar: The state government targets to complete the construction of international hockey stadium at Rourkela by July, 2022.
Chief secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra told this to media persons after reviewing various project works undergoing in the Steel City on Wednesday. The construction work of Biju Patnaik Indoor Stadium has reached completion stage, he said. The indoor stadium will have three badminton courts and gymnasium of international standard for the players, he added.
The Birsa Munda Hockey Stadium having 20,000 seating capacity will be the largest hockey stadium in India. It will host the FIH Men’s Hockey World Cup along with the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar in 2023.
Mahapatra, who visited under-construction science park and planetarium in Chhend, said the two projects would be completed by June.
He further said the expansion work of the airport is also going on in full swing and will be completed by May, 2022. The airport will also have a terminal building, he added.
Reviewing the COVID management in Rourkela, the chief secretary said the JP Hospital has been functioning as COVID Hospital. Besides, NTPC COVID centre at Sundargarh is also catering the people affected by the disease, he added.
Mahapatra was accompanied by secretary 5T VK Pandian, director, national health mission Shalini Pandit and special secretary R Vineel Krishna.
