Odisha Govt To Conduct Class Tests For School Students To Assess Learning Recovery Programme

Bhubaneswar: In order to assess its Learning Recovery Programme, the Odisha government has decided to conduct tests among school students across the state.

According to sources, the School and Mass Education department has taken the decision to conduct the test among the students of Class VI to VIII. The tests aim at making an assessment of progress made by the students under the Learning Recovery Programme.

While the State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) will set the questions for the tests, the students can appear at the examinations in their own schools. The answer papers will be evaluated by the teachers of a nearby school.

The students, who will not secure the pass marks, will not be detained in the class. On the other hand, steps would be taken to improve their skills and learning capacity, the sources said.

The Odisha School Education Programme Authority (OSEPA) implemented the learning recovery programme for the students from Class III to IX in order to compensate the learning lost during the 2 years of COVID pandemic. It primarily meant to benefit the students who could not avail online education due to lack of facilities like mobile phones and internet connectivity.

It may be noted that that class promotion of the students from Class I to VIII is mandatory, as per the provisions of the Right to Education Act.
