Odisha Govt To Distribute PDS Items Every Month From New Year

Bhubaneswar: In order to ensure transparency in the public distribution system (PDS), the Odisha government will provide PDS items every month from coming year.

This was stated by Minister of Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Krushna Chandra Patra at a press conference in Bhubaneswar on Friday.

He said the schedule of distribution of PDS items has been revised as large scale corruption was detected in the prevalent practice of giving the food items to the registered PDS consumers every three months.

“It was found that the PDS dealers were selling the PDS items in black market as they had the stock for three months while the consumers were not taking their quota at one time. Now the consumer items will be supplied to the dealers on monthly basis so that such illegal activity can be stopped,” he said.

The steps would also be taken to ensure that the PDS items reach the agents in time and are given to the consumers as per their quota on monthly basis, he added.
