Bhubaneswar: New ration cards will be issued by the Odisha government to the beneficiaries who have applied for it in the past one month after e-KYC verification, the state Assembly was informed on Wednesday.
This information was given when Congress MLA from Barabati-Cuttack Sofia Firdous stated that around ten lakh people are waiting for ration cards after having applied for it and sought a response from the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister.
As the Minister of the department concerned was absent during the proceedings, Higher Education Minister Suryavanshi Suraj informed the House that completion of e-KYC verification within a stipulated time frame is not mandatory.
He said e-KYC verification is a sensitive matter and hence the government has appealed to people to get the process completed at the earliest.
Earlier, the government had stated that e-kyc audits will be made to check whether the information provided by the beneficiaries is transparent or not. Following the completion of e-kyc audits, ration cards will be provided to the new beneficiaries.
