Bhubaneswar: In order to enhance security system in small airports, the Odisha government plans to deploy robot and 2D wall radar for surveillance and patrolling.
According to sources, Odisha Police has already sought to procure robot and 2D wall radar, a sophisticated gadget, through tenders. “Amid growing concerns over aviation security, there is a need for state-of-the-art technology to counter all types of threats. We have floated tenders to procure the two advanced gadgets to boost the security system at small and regional airports under a modernisation scheme,” TOI quoted a senior police officer as saying.
Initially, one robot and a 2D wall radar will be purchased for experimental purposes. It is planned to bring the airports at Jeypore, Rourkela, Rangeilunda, Utkela and Malkangiri under enhanced technological security, they added.
The robots feature high-resolution cameras with thermal and infrared capabilities to monitor and detect the things that are not visible to humans. Those would have data analytics and AI to monitor passenger activities, spot suspicious behaviour and provide alerts to security staff.
“The robot’s sensor system allows for obstacle avoidance and smooth navigation around people during patrols. These units include communication systems for immediate alert transmission to control centres, providing real-time footage and essential information,” a police officer said.
Similarly, the 2D wall radars would keep an eye on people’s movements and concealed objects behind walls in strategic areas. It can also assist security teams during crisis situations and anti-terrorism operations, the sources added.
