Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to provide preparatory pilot training to 50 tribal students, mostly women, to become commercial pilots.

According to official sources, the Commerce and Transport Department has recently issued a tender to hire a professional agency to provide the training.

As per the tender document, the government, through the selected private agency, will identify at least 300 tribal students, from whom 50 will be shortlisted through proper screening to impart the preparatory training, news agency PTI quoted an official as saying.

The department has decided to hire a professional training agency for preliminary screening and preparatory training for shortlisted students from the tribal community at a designated place in Bhubaneswar for 8 weeks, covering all selection parameters of Airline Cadet Pilot Assessment and Program.

The preparatory training course is aimed at preparing the candidates with adequate knowledge to clear the Cadet Pilot Assessment and at the same time prepare for the basic foundation program for DGCA CPL IR (A) syllabus and prepare them to understand the flying training course as per the established syllabus, the official said.

Different types of training will be provided to the selected 50 tribal students like basic English training, personal development, grooming, aviation English language proficiency training, basic aviation knowledge, human performance & limitations, aptitude & psychometric tests, group discussion & interview preparation, portable simulator training for hand-eye foot coordination, spatial orientation etc.

After completion of the basic knowledge training, the 50 students will sit for the final round of selection by two private airlines, Air India and Indigo. They will again shortlist top 10 students through their test and provide them technical training to make them professional pilots, the official said.
